This was the incentive for me to start up Urban Tech. At that time, I worked for a major contact lens manufacturer. I was the head of the New Business Development Division of the company. My division had already developed a product called DELIOS (the basic model of SUPER DELIOS), and this product had a good reputation with our consumers. DELIOS contributed greatly to the public's ability to secure safe drinking water in emergencies. We were proud of this product. I usually advised consumers to keep DELIOS in their house for a "rainy day". While I got involved in the development of this product, I found myself becoming attached to it like a parent, just as if I were the sole inventor. I always thought, "DELIOS is a gift for me. It will save people who will suffer from lack of safe drinking water in case of emergency." "I want to contribute to society through my work." This is my guiding principle and my philosophy. The DELIOS business was the product to meet the principle. When my boss announced his decision to cancel the DELIOS project, I thought DELIOS should not be suspended. I asked him if I could get independent from the company to continue this project. Fortunately, the company accepted my proposal and gave me lots of support when I became independent in starting up the new business. My own company may not make huge profits, but I am very happy to say that SUPER DELIOS has been widely accepted and enjoys popularity all over Japan. The other day, I received a phone call from a DELIOS user, who had just retuned from mountain climbing. The climber said on the phone, "I would like to thank you. DELIOS saved my life when I got lost in the mountains. I could secure safe drinking water thanks to DELIOS." Such remarks are a great joy to hear and give me deep satisfaction in having continued this business. I have another comment in the following postcard.

"I once sent you an inquiry about the function of your 'Portable Water Filter, DELIOS.' Now I would like to thank you for two things: (1) After my inquiry I received a detailed reply from you (Urban Tech). I appreciate your kind favor and your staff. (2) This winter, I made a two-month trip to Nepal. I stayed in the Himalayas. I enjoyed a comfortable stay there thanks to DELIOS. This was my third trip. When I visited there the first time, I suffered from dysentery. On my second trip, I suffered from mountain sickness. People advised me to drink lots of water to avoid mountain sickness. This time, I was able to drink enough water with DELIOS. In Katmandu, I usually bought bottles of mineral water and put them in some DELIOS vessels whenever I went out. The vessel was just the size for a canteen. In the Himalayas, they take water from a brook and boil it for drinking water. Boiling water to where it is safe to drink takes a longer time due to a lower boiling point in higher mountains [90°C versus 100°C at sea level]. Water taken from brooks contains refuse because of snow-fed streams or melt water. Also, this method requires burning lots of wood. On the other hand, DELIOS has no such troubles and moreover it is an environmentally friendly product. I trekked farther from the cabin I was staying in up to the top of an unknown mountain, carrying a camera and DELIOS-dipped water from a brook for drinking water. I was thus able to reach the summit, where I took pictures of the whole scenery of Mt. Everest. When I moved to a town near the border of India, I could not purchase bottled mineral water. The tap water there was not so hygienic, so I could not drink it safely. But thanks to DELIOS, I was able to produce safe drinking water."
